During Kidzu's first two years of operation, we featured traveling exhibits rented from other children's museums.  Since then, we have created our own original exhibit, "KidZoom: The Power of Creativity" which celebrates our community and its creativity.  We will use KidZoom to pilot ideas for our expansion museum, which we are currently planning.  Learn more about KidZoom: The Power of Creativity, now on display at Kidzu.

We hope you had a chance to enjoy some of the traveling exhibits we shared over the past two years. Read on to learn more about what came before KidZoom...

Past Exhibits:

The Amazing Castle

“The Amazing Castle,” invited visitors to step back in time and enter the magical world of a medieval castle community.  Exhibit text presented in English and Spanish.  The Amazing Castle was created by Minnesota Children’s Museum with funding from Curtis & Marjorie Nelson and the Curtis L. Carlson Family Foundation.
On display at Kidzu: 9/18/07 - 6/1/08

"Inside Art: The World Inside the Frame"
Ever wonder what it would be like to step inside a painting? Inside Art™ invited children to step into the frame and experience life inside paintings by well-known artists. Don a pair of overalls and join the other farmhands for a meal in Grant Wood’s vintage farmhouse scene, Dinner for Threshers. Explore a turn-of-the-century Canadian campsite in John Singer Sargent’s Camp at Lake O’Hara. Arrange a ceremonial pillar of flowers in Diego Rivera’s Corn Festival mural. Take the reins of a giant chicken and pull your load to town in folk artist Clementine Hunter’s Big Chicken. Become the Mona Lisa, build a sculpture, go on an art hunt, and more! Each work was recreated as a three-dimensional, walk-in environment, with hands-on activities, a print of the original work, and information about the artist’s life. This traveling exhibit was created by KidZibits, LLC, of Minneapolis.
On display at Kidzu: 5/11/07 - 8/26/07
Sponsored at Kidzu by a generous grant from the Grable Foundation.

Mister Rogers' Neighborhood: A Hands-On Exhibit

This exhibit featured a life-sized recreation of the set of the "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" television show.  Visitors were invited to try on Mr. Rogers' sweater and sneakers, explore King Friday XIII's castle, climb into Henrietta and X's tree, operate the Neighborhood Trolley and much more.  "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood--A Hands-On Exhibit" was circulated under the auspices of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and Family Communications, Inc.

Pop Art Recycled
Third and fourth graders from Seawell Elementary School worked with artist Lynn Wartski to create a "quilt" made out of flattened soda pop cans. Each panel is decorated with images related to environmental stewardship, using a technique called "repousse." Accompanying panels illustrated the artistic process. A project of the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission's Artists@Work Program.
