After more than two years of featuring
traveling exhibits from other children’s museums, Kidzu is delighted to
announce its first original exhibit incorporating the creative talents of our
community.
“KidZoom: The Power of Creativity” will inspire children to
exercise creativity in all areas of life and to imagine what the future can
hold for their own community. Fantastic
creations by local artists, craftspeople, authors and others set the scene
for this dynamic, colorful exhibit designed to harness our greatest natural
resource, children’s creative energy. “KidZoom” features three primary creation zones, all
powered by children’s imaginations:
“Green Thumb” Garden-to-Table Market: Sow the seeds of
creativity in the Green Thumb Market, where children can learn about nature’s
creations and the fantastic voyage produce takes from the garden to your dinner
plate. Children are invited to plant,
tend and harvest produce to sell in the Farmers’ Market. Or, fill up your basket and head to the
Millhouse Kitchen, where young chefs can pretend to whip up unique culinary
creations to serve at the Kitchen Café. Rich
lessons about healthy eating, local cuisine, gardening and nature take root in
the Green Thumb Market.
“Build-A-Dream” Construction Zone: The sky’s the limit in
the Build-a-Dream Construction Zone, where kids are invited to plan and build
their very own buildings and communities.
Put on your hard hat and use oversized blocks and other creative
materials to build amazing structures. Or,
try your hand at Kidzu’s Gravitron, an outrageously fun machine that invites
visitors to launch balls with a giant Archimedes screw and race them along tracks of their own design. Hook on a tool belt and visit the tool station, where children
can practice using hammers, screwdrivers and other construction tools. And, help us imagine the future of our community, including
Kidzu’s expansion museum.
“Kidoodle Moodle” Art Studio: Moodle, doodle and use your
noodle in the Kidoodle Moodle Art Studio! In
Kidzu’s vibrant Art Studio, children are invited to make original works of art
to take home or display at Kidzu. Works
by local artists provide
fantastic inspiration. Learn about
mural-making, textile art, and 3-dimensional arts. And, you won’t want to miss a chance to add
to Noodle Magic, the giant community art sculpture, which changes every day!
Also featuring:
Book Nook: Curl up
and relax with a good friend and a good book in Kidzu’s Book Nook. Featuring stories by North Carolina authors, as well as many
other books that will spark children’s imaginations and creativity.
Tot Spot: Tots and infants have an area to
call their own at Kidzu. Our enhanced
Tot Spot inspires wonder in our littlest visitors, providing opportunities
to explore shapes, textures, and colors and to make discoveries in a safe
environment. Even our youngest visitors
are invited to learn more about creativity and to experience local creative
inspirations.
Caregiver Resource Center: Some of the most creative visitors
to Kidzu are parents and other caregivers, who exercise their creativity daily
in raising and nurturing their young children.
The Caregiver Resource Center provides inspiration and resources in
English and Spanish to help caregivers support their children’s healthy
development.
KidZoom’s energy can’t be contained! This exhibit will evolve and
change over time as each child and family makes their mark. KidZoom will serve as a springboard for weekly
programming celebrating our community and its creativity. KidZoom is fully bilingual with
exhibit text in both English and Spanish.
You won’t want to miss this extraordinary new exhibit. So, zoom on in to Kidzu. KidZoom will put the U in Kidzu!
