The Questioneers: Read. Question. Think. PLAY!
September 24, 2022 - January 8, 2023
The Questioneers book series, written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts, celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Alongside the inquisitive characters, Iggy Peck, Rosie Revere, Ada Twist, Sofia Valdez, and Aaron Slater, every budding architect, engineer, scientist, mathematician, leader, and artist will find inspiration to solve everyday mysteries and to think more critically about their world.
Each story highlights problem-solving, communication, perseverance, risk-taking, and the role of caring adults in children’s lives. Most importantly, they will learn that despite inevitable challenges, they should always continue to: Read. Question. Think. PLAY!
This traveling exhibit will not only serve as a local resource for families and schools but will be promoted statewide for families and field trips across North Carolina.

Why do we need your help?
The summer slide is a well-documented phenomenon that occurs in children of all ages when they don’t receive enough reading practice over the summer, leading to an average loss of two months of reading progress (Institute of Reading Development). This combined with significant learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures is demonstrating far-reaching implications for all children, but especially for children with disabilities and children belonging to under-resourced communities (Buffett Early Childhood Institute).
Current projections from the Department of Education are showing increased gaps in student achievement at the beginning of the 22-23 school year due to intermittent closings of school due to COVID-19, as well as additional effects of the pandemic on young children (DOE). Targeted summer and fall programming is essential to address learning loss, especially for students who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
Kidzu is combating the summer and COVID-19 slides through innovative and recurring literacy programming this summer, culminating with a traveling exhibit early this fall.
